FOLDING TECHNIQUES
This week I experimented with different folding techniques to add another dimension to my models.
First I tried out the 'No Crease' technique to make this bird-like creation. The corner pinch allows it to stay in place without unfolding into a flat plane. I used a colourful page from a magazine that gave it an extra pop of interest.
Next I tried the 'Crumpling' technique using foil as I thought this would create a highly reflective look. I liked the organic feel of this style and the effect that the foil gave.
I then used the coloured paper from the magazine to try out the 'Simple spirals' technique. I found this fold the most challenging but the outcome was effective. From the side, it resembled a spiral staircase, and when unfolded took on a different look.
Next I tried out the 'X-form spans' with the coloured paper. I really like the curvature of this fold and the parabola-like shape it gives the paper.
I decided to try out this fold again with foil, as I thought the geometric shape lent itself well to the reflectiveness of the foil. I really liked the effect that these reflective triangles gave, throwing the light in their surroundings.
